New Castle County Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Feb. 15.

Students whose plans to complete a degree at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh have been derailed by the school’s recently announced plans to close March 31 are invited to explore higher education possibilities at Delaware College of Art and Design.

Last year, DCAD accepted art and design students affected by the closure of the Art Institute of Philadelphia. In 2017, students planning to attend Antonelli Institute in Springfield, Pa., were accepted by DCAD.

Like the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, DCAD offers associate degree studies in animation, graphic design and photography. These programs and DCAD’s programs in fine arts and illustration prepare students for transfer into bachelor’s programs at four-year colleges and universities throughout the state, region and beyond.

Full-time associate’s degree tuition at DCAD is approximately $24,000 per year – about the same as was charged by the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. This is significantly less than the $30,000 to $40,000 charged per year at most four-year art and design schools in the United States. Costs for continuing education courses vary.

“DCAD is currently accepting degree students for our Fall 2019 semester, and students who had been planning to enter their first or second year at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh later this year are welcome to contact us to see how they could begin or continue their higher education without interruption here,” said Dean Katy Ro. “As an accredited, nonprofit institution, DCAD is eager to assist students whose career goals require completion of a high-quality professional art and design program.”

Delaware College of Art and Design is the Mid-Atlantic Region’s only two-year professional art and design college. The private, nonprofit institution is accredited by both the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.

Anyone interested in exploring degree-program enrollment options at DCAD for Fall 2019 should contact the Admissions Office by visiting the campus at 600 N. Market St. in Wilmington, Del.; calling (302) 622-8000; or emailing admissions@dcad.edu.
